FICA Congratulates the Scottish Cricketers’ Association on its first MOU

17 Jan 2018 - by FICA in FICA MEDIA RELEASES

The Scottish Cricketers Association (SCA), which became a member of FICA in 2017, has agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Cricket Scotland on behalf of professional cricketers in Scotland. The MOU is the first between the two organisations and the first between a players’ association and governing body in an ICC associate country.

Commenting on the signing of the MOU FICA Executive Chairman, Tony Irish, said:

“This is a great step forward for the game in Scotland and we congratulate the SCA and Cricket Scotland for leading the way in associate countries.”

“The MOU is a comprehensive agreement regulating player arrangements and it acknowledges players as key stakeholders in the game in Scotland. An MOU such as this enables players and administrators to work together in a structured way and to tackle challenges proactively and collaboratively.”

“Last year’s MOU outcome in Australia was important in ensuring the retention of revenue sharing principles in one of the world’s leading cricket countries and the Scottish MOU now demonstrates the applicability of these principles in a smaller cricket economy. Revenue share acknowledges the players’ role in generating revenue and ensures that both players and governing bodies can benefit from their shared success.”

“As the global players body, we are well aware of the challenges faced by both players and administrators in associate countries. The growth and expansion of the game globally however relies on smaller countries being able to develop as cricket nations and being able to provide secure career paths for players in those countries.”

“FICA will continue to advocate for fair, transparent and accountable financial modeling across the global game to enable smaller countries the opportunity to grow and retain their player talent.”
